Tranmere Rovers have responded to Roy Keane’s suggestion Trent Alexander-Arnold ought to join them over Real Madrid and the League Two club have posted a brilliant response on social media which has gone viral.

Liverpool right-back Alexander-Arnold started the club’s big Premier League clash against Manchester United at Anfield this afternoon.

However, the defender was often the weak link for the Anfield side in the first half as United enjoyed a couple of good chances which came down Liverpool’s right flank.

The defender was also at fault for United’s opener after the break which was eventually scored by Lisandro Martinez to give the visitors the lead.

Liverpool were able to spare Alexander-Arnold’s blushes after Cody Gapko equalised before Mo Salah slotted home from the penalty spot after a handball by Matthijs de Ligt, though Amad Diallo levelled with 10 minutes remaining.

At the interval when the game was still goalless, former United captain Keane laid into Alexander-Arnold’s defensive capabilities.

The defender is out of contract at the end of this season as things stand and rumours have circulated suggesting a potential move on a free transfer to Spanish giants Real Madrid – a suggestion which Keane quashed the prospect of on Sky Sports following his first half performance.

Keane said: “Those chances for United, they’re so easy. Just a couple of balls over the top.

We talk about how brilliant Trent is going forward. Trent’s defending today, my goodness. It’s schoolboy stuff.

“There’s talk about him going to Real Madrid. The way he’s defending, he’s going to Tranmere Rovers after this! He’s got to do better.”

Tranmere are nearby neighbours for Liverpool on the other side of the River Mersey on the Wirral and the Prenton Park club is currently 20th in League Two.

Nigel Adkins’ side clinched their first win in four games this weekend after a 1-0 victory at home over Carlisle United, with the Super White Army winning thanks to Cameron Norman’s 23rd minute finish.

Norman plays as a right-back – the same position as Alexander-Arnold – and in responding to Keane’s view made it clear they are happy with what they have in that area of their squad with a brilliant response on social media.

The post shows a picture of Norman celebrating his goal over Carlisle and reads: “Trent to Tranmere, Roy? Nah, we’re alright thanks.”
