Trent Alexander-Arnold ‘wants two things from Liverpool’ to reject Real Madrid move and sign new contract

The Liverpool Echo reported in December that Alexander-Arnold is yet to indicate a desire to leave Anfield, and it appears the Reds haven’t yet given up trying to convince him to stay put.

According to Ben Jacobs, Alexander-Arnold has made two demands to Anfield bosses in order to consider an extension.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he explained: “I’ve heard that, although Trent is not open to a mid-season move, what he does want from Liverpool – if he is to extend – is a three-year contract minimum. And, in the long run, to be captain of the football club.

So keep an eye as to whether perhaps Virgil van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold talks are somewhat intertwined. And if Trent is told he’s going to be captain in the long run, does that impact Van Dijk?

“But as of now, what I think we can say is that Liverpool are more confident that Van Dijk and Salah might stay, whereas Trent Alexander-Arnold feels like an open situation at the moment.”

SPORTbible has contacted Trent Alexander-Arnold’s representatives for comment.

The Athletic claimed last month that Liverpool have tabled new contract offers to the out-of-contract trio of Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk and Salah.

But speaking after Liverpool’s 5-0 win over West Ham, Salah – who is the Premier League’s top scorer this term with 17 goals, as well as providing 13 assists – wasn’t overly open about his future.

He told Sky Sports: “We are far away from that [agreeing on a new contract].

“But again, I don’t want to put something in the media and people start saying stuff. But nothing [has] really moved and now I’m focused with the team.”

Van Dijk, meanwhile, has refused to address speculation surrounding his negotiations, though David Ornstein claims the ‘feeling’ around Anfield is that he and Salah will eventually sign new deals.
