Liverpool are planning to announce Virgil van Dijk has signed a new contract with the club in the coming weeks after Mohamed Salah put pen to paper.

That is according to former Man United chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider the Reds will wait for the hype around Salah’s extension to die down before making their next announcement.

The 33-year-old remains a key part of Arne Slot’s plans for the future, and there was always confidence that a deal would be agreed.

Brown told Football Insider in February that Salah’s new contract would be announced by Liverpool towards the end of the season to give fans a late boost.

Van Dijk’s new deal is now expected to follow in due course and will provide a similar boost to the fans as they close in on the Premier League title.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed Arsenal and Man City have been left reeling by the contract news at Anfield in a huge boost to Slot’s side.

Liverpool make Virgil van Dijk contract announcement plan
Brown told Football Insider in December that Salah and Van Dijk would sign new contracts as Liverpool have been working hard all season to find an agreement.

Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted that Liverpool have managed the situation “perfectly”.

“They’ve managed the situation perfectly with the way they’re doing the announcements.

“They don’t want to say it all at once – they’ll let the Salah talk die down and once everyone has stopped focusing on that, then they’ll announce Van Dijk.

“That’s been a part of their plan, to announce it when they’re heading towards the title.

“It’s all agreed, he has signed the new deal, and now it’s just about when it will be announced.
