Liverpool are intensifying their efforts to secure the signature of highly-rated RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande this summer, with the Ivory Coast international emerging as the club’s primary target to fill the significant void left by the outgoing Mohamed Salah.
According to respected transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Premier League giants are “really pushing” and “really insisting” to get the deal over the line, describing Diomande as a “top, top priority” for Anfield chiefs.
In his latest edition of the Here We Go podcast, Romano delivered an encouraging update for Liverpool supporters, highlighting the attacker’s exceptional qualities in a market where such profiles are increasingly rare.
Diomande is probably one of the most exciting and electrifying wingers on the market,” Romano explained. “Now, it’s difficult to find players who can be young, talented, good in one-v-one situations, fast, score goals and deliver assists… it’s very difficult.
The deal is expected to command a substantial fee, with Leipzig reportedly valuing their star at around €140 million (£120 million), according to recent reports. A transfer of that magnitude would position Diomande as Liverpool’s second-most expensive signing ever, behind only Alexander Isak’s £125 million arrival.
David Ornstein has previously indicated that Liverpool hold a stronger position than their competitors to land the dynamic forward, though Paris Saint-Germain remain the most significant rival for his services.
Romano confirmed both clubs remain firmly in contention, but Liverpool appear to have the momentum. “Liverpool are really pushing and really insisting to make it happen,” he added. “For Liverpool, he’s a top, top priority. They are offering important money to the player to get it done.
The pursuit of Diomande is not Liverpool’s only avenue on the wing, however. Reports emerging from Portugal suggest the Reds are also frontrunners for another talented attacker who recorded an impressive 31 goal contributions during the 2025/26 campaign.
As the summer transfer window heats up, all eyes remain on Anfield. With Fabrizio Romano confirming Liverpool’s aggressive stance and status as favourites, a major statement signing in the mould of Yan Diomande could soon be on the horizon.
