Pecsi Set for Season-Long Loan to TSV Hartberg as Liverpool’s Pre-Season Squad Heads to USA
One Liverpool player omitted from the club’s pre-season tour to the United States is on the verge of leaving Anfield.
Armin Pecsi joined Liverpool from Puskás Akadémia in his native Hungary last summer. The 21-year-old goalkeeper is yet to make his competitive senior debut for the Reds, though he has been involved with the first-team squad on several occasions.
He made his senior international debut for Hungary last month, featuring in a 3-1 friendly win over Kazakhstan just before the World Cup. In that same game, Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai scored and provided an assist.
Loan Move Imminent
According to the Liverpool Echo, Pecsi is close to finalising a season-long loan with Austrian side TSV Hartberg, who finished 6th in the Austrian Bundesliga last season (2025/26).
As a result, the young keeper was not included in the initial 31-man Liverpool squad that departed from John Lennon Airport for the club’s pre-season tour of the USA.
First-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker is also absent while he completes his post-World Cup break. That leaves Giorgi Mamardashvili and Freddie Woodman as the two senior stoppers available for the upcoming friendlies against Sunderland, Wrexham, and Leeds.
Why the Move Makes Sense
Currently fourth in the pecking order behind Alisson, Mamardashvili, and Woodman, Pecsi’s first-team opportunities at Liverpool this season would have been extremely limited. A full campaign of regular senior football in a competitive European league is the ideal next step in his development.
The move also has a positive recent precedent — three seasons ago, fellow goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros enjoyed a highly successful loan at Red Bull Salzburg, where he won the Austrian league and cup double.
Puskás Akadémia president Balázs Tóth previously described Pecsi as having a “beautiful future ahead of him,” and his call-up to the Hungarian national team shows he is moving in the right direction.
Hopefully, Pecsi will get plenty of starts at Hartberg, return to Liverpool a more experienced and confident goalkeeper, and continue his upward trajectory.
