Jurgen Klopp Breaks Silence on Man City Verdict as Liverpool Title Question Resurfaces

Written by admin

Jurgen Klopp has finally addressed the latest developments surrounding Manchester City and the possibility of Liverpool being awarded Premier League titles retrospectively.

The former Liverpool manager’s comments have attracted plenty of attention, particularly because his Reds came agonisingly close to Manchester City in two unforgettable title races during his time at Anfield.

Liverpool finished just one point behind City in both 2018/19 and 2021/22, despite recording extraordinary points totals of 97 and 92 respectively.

With the debate over Manchester City’s historical titles now back in the spotlight, Klopp was inevitably asked whether he was expecting Liverpool to benefit from any potential sanctions.

His response, however, was remarkably calm.

Klopp: “I’m far from preparing for a title”

Speaking about the situation, Klopp made it clear that he is not sitting around waiting for Liverpool to receive another Premier League title.

“I’m far from preparing for a title or anything like that. I’m absolutely fine with what we’ve achieved in Liverpool. We fought hard on the pitch. I can’t say more about that because I don’t know the details.”

Klopp also stressed that he continues to have enormous respect for Pep Guardiola and the Manchester City team that Liverpool competed against for so many years.

“I can only wait and see. I have big respect for Guardiola and City’s style of football; they played fantastic and were a top-class opponent for us.

“If any sanctions are handed out, I have nothing to do with it; I’ll wait and see.”

The German’s comments underline his desire to leave any potential punishment in the hands of the relevant authorities rather than becoming involved in the debate over retrospective honours.

Klopp once joked about a Liverpool title parade

Interestingly, Klopp’s latest comments have brought back memories of something he said shortly after leaving Liverpool in 2024.

At the time, Klopp was asked what he would do if Manchester City were eventually stripped of titles as a result of the Premier League investigation.

His response was delivered with a smile, but it quickly became one of his most memorable comments:

“If you organise a bus parade, I am in! How long it takes I don’t care!”

That comment has now resurfaced as supporters once again discuss what could happen to previous Premier League seasons if historical sanctions are eventually imposed.

Liverpool’s two heartbreaking one-point defeats

Few teams pushed Guardiola’s Manchester City as hard as Klopp’s Liverpool.

In the 2018/19 season, Liverpool produced one of the greatest points totals in Premier League history, collecting 97 points. Yet City finished with 98 and claimed the title by just one point.

Liverpool finally got their reward the following season, winning the Premier League after an incredible campaign in which they accumulated 99 points.

Then came another dramatic title race in 2021/22.

Liverpool finished the season with 92 points, but City once again edged them out by a single point after finishing on 93.

Those two campaigns remain some of the most painful near-misses in Liverpool’s modern history.

Could Liverpool receive another title?

That remains uncertain.

Any decision over sanctions, the treatment of historical results and whether honours could be retrospectively changed would ultimately depend on the relevant authorities and the specific sanctions imposed.

For now, there is no confirmation that Liverpool will be awarded additional Premier League titles.

And Klopp himself appears to have no intention of celebrating something that has not happened.

For the former Liverpool boss, what his team achieved on the pitch still matters most.

Liverpool won the Premier League under Klopp, reached multiple European finals, lifted the Champions League and produced some extraordinary title challenges along the way.

Whatever happens with Manchester City in the future, Klopp appears content to let the authorities deal with the consequences while he looks back proudly on what his Liverpool side accomplished.

For now, the title debate continues — but Klopp is clearly not preparing a parade just yet. 🔴👀
