Liverpool could be approaching the end of an important chapter, with goalkeeper Alisson Becker facing an uncertain future at Anfield.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has suggested there is now a serious possibility that the Brazilian goalkeeper will leave Liverpool when his current contract expires in the summer of 2027.
The 34-year-old has been a crucial figure for the Reds since joining from AS Roma in 2018. However, with his contract entering its final months and no active discussions over a new deal, questions are beginning to emerge about his long-term future.
Fabrizio Romano Provides Fresh Update on Alisson’s Future
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano revealed that Liverpool are aware of Alisson’s previous interest in joining Juventus earlier in 2026.
The goalkeeper eventually decided to remain at Anfield for another season after Liverpool activated a one-year contract extension.
According to Romano, Liverpool were already dealing with significant changes within the squad, including the departures of Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and other experienced players.
Alisson chose to stay and provide stability during the club’s transition from Arne Slot to new manager Andoni Iraola.
However, Romano believes the situation could be different next summer.
Discussing the possibility of Alisson leaving Liverpool in 2027, the transfer journalist said:
“I think it’s a serious possibility.”
His comments have increased speculation surrounding the goalkeeper’s future, although a departure has not yet been confirmed.
Andoni Iraola Hopes Alisson Will Sign a New Contract
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has also addressed the uncertainty surrounding Alisson’s future.
The Spaniard admitted that he does not know whether the goalkeeper will remain at Anfield beyond the current season.
Nevertheless, Iraola has made it clear that he would welcome the opportunity to keep the experienced Brazilian at the club.
Alisson’s importance to Liverpool cannot easily be measured. His exceptional shot-stopping, distribution, composure and leadership have made him one of the most influential goalkeepers in the club’s modern history.
Liverpool Already Considering Potential Replacements
Liverpool are reportedly keeping an eye on several goalkeepers as they prepare for the possibility of losing Alisson.
Aston Villa’s Zion Suzuki is among the names being monitored as a potential long-term replacement.
Giorgi Mamardashvili, who is already part of Liverpool’s goalkeeping setup, could also be considered for a bigger role.
Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa has additionally been linked with a possible move to Anfield.
However, Liverpool still have an important decision to make regarding Alisson’s contract.
Allowing such an experienced player to leave without a clear succession plan could create a major challenge for Iraola’s side.
Could This Be Alisson Becker’s Final Season at Liverpool?
For now, Alisson’s future remains uncertain, and there is still an opportunity for Liverpool to offer him a new contract.
Romano’s latest comments suggest that a summer 2027 departure is a realistic possibility, rather than an outcome that can be dismissed.
Liverpool supporters will be hoping the club can reach an agreement with the Brazilian, who has played a significant role in the team’s success since arriving from Roma.
Whether Alisson stays or moves on, Liverpool must begin planning for the future of one of their most important players.
