Arne Slot has quickly emerged as the frontrunner for another major managerial role after his departure from Liverpool, with reports suggesting he is already in discussions with AC Milan.
Liverpool confirmed on Saturday that Slot’s two-year spell at Anfield had come to an end. The Dutchman leaves with a record of 66 wins from 113 matches and will be remembered for guiding the Reds to the 2024/25 Premier League title, their second league crown in 35 years. The club also praised his leadership during the difficult period following the death of Diogo Jota.
Despite that success, criticism of Liverpool’s style of play intensified throughout the 2025/26 campaign, with many supporters calling for a return to the high-intensity approach associated with Jürgen Klopp. As a result, the club opted for a change in direction.
With Slot gone, Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is widely tipped to become Liverpool’s next manager, although Pierre Sage, Oliver Glasner and Sebastian Hoeneß have also been linked with the role.
However, Slot may not be out of work for long. Reports from journalist Sacha Tavolieri claim he is now the leading candidate to replace Massimiliano Allegri at AC Milan, with talks between both parties already said to be underway.
Milan are searching for a fresh start after finishing fifth in Serie A and missing out on Champions League qualification for a second consecutive season, having lost seven of their final 13 league matches.
In their farewell statement, Liverpool’s owners described Slot’s dismissal as a difficult decision, thanking him for his achievements and insisting his place in the club’s history is secure as the manager who delivered Liverpool’s 20th league title. They also expressed confidence that he will continue to enjoy success in the next chapter of his coaching career.
