Liverpool miss out as PSG close in on Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche
Liverpool’s interest in another versatile attacker has hit a significant obstacle, with Paris Saint-Germain moving to the brink of signing Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche.
The Reds had identified the France international as an appealing target for his technical quality, creativity and positional flexibility. Akliouche can operate effectively from the right wing, as an attacking midfielder or in the pockets behind a striker — attributes that align well with Liverpool’s fluid forward line.
According to Fabrizio Romano, PSG and Monaco have reached a major breakthrough in negotiations. The deal is now in its final stages, with only remaining details to be settled before confirmation is expected. Monaco had previously resisted approaches from the French champions, but the two clubs appear to have found common ground on the fee and payment structure.
Sky Sports reported that Liverpool made an initial enquiry and checked the conditions required for a deal. However, the Reds never progressed to advanced talks. PSG’s more aggressive pursuit allowed them to establish a clear advantage, leaving Liverpool with little realistic chance of intervening unless the transfer collapses.
Akliouche would have offered Liverpool close control, intelligent movement and the ability to link midfield with the attack from multiple positions. Remaining in Ligue 1, meanwhile, gives him the chance to join France’s dominant club and compete regularly for major trophies.
For Liverpool, the sensible path is to accept the situation and shift focus to other targets. Chasing the deal at this stage risks an expensive bidding war for a player who has not shown a clear preference for Anfield. Akliouche is a high-quality talent, but the priority remains players who are both available and motivated to move to Merseyside.
