Chelsea are reportedly keeping tabs on Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz, with Xabi Alonso said to have encouraged the Blues to monitor the German international’s situation at Anfield.
The 23-year-old joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in a major transfer move and has experienced a mixed start to life in the Premier League. However, recent performances suggest the attacking midfielder is beginning to adapt and show why Liverpool invested so heavily in his talent.
Chelsea Monitoring Florian Wirtz’s Situation at Liverpool
According to reports from TEAMtalk, Chelsea are interested in Wirtz and could consider a move if Liverpool ever become willing to discuss his future.
Alonso, who previously worked with Wirtz at Bayer Leverkusen, is reportedly a key figure behind Chelsea’s interest. His familiarity with the midfielder’s abilities could make the Liverpool star an attractive option should an opportunity arise.
Nevertheless, Chelsea are not currently believed to be pursuing an active transfer, and there is no indication that Liverpool are prepared to sell their prized signing.
Wirtz Showing Signs of Improvement at Anfield
Despite the challenges of adapting to English football, Wirtz has recently delivered encouraging performances that highlight his creativity and attacking quality.
The German playmaker reportedly created nine chances from open play against Brentford, demonstrating his ability to unlock opposition defences and provide opportunities for his teammates.
He also found the net during Liverpool’s entertaining 4-3 Champions League victory over Villarreal, providing another reminder of the quality he can bring to the team.
These performances will offer encouragement to Liverpool supporters who have been waiting to see the midfielder consistently reproduce the form that made him one of Europe’s most highly rated young talents.
Why Xabi Alonso Rates the Liverpool Midfielder
Alonso knows Wirtz well from their time together at Bayer Leverkusen, where the midfielder established himself as one of the most exciting attacking players in European football.
The former Leverkusen coach has previously spoken highly of Wirtz’s ability, praising his quality and describing him as a world-class talent.
That familiarity could explain why Chelsea would be interested in keeping track of his progress. However, admiration for a player does not necessarily mean a transfer will happen, particularly when the selling club has no intention of letting him leave.
Liverpool Have Little Reason to Sell Florian Wirtz
Liverpool remain in a strong position regarding Wirtz’s future, with the midfielder reportedly contracted to the club until 2030.
His recent improvement also gives the Reds further reason to remain patient as he continues adjusting to the demands of the Premier League.
Rather than considering a departure, Liverpool’s priority is likely to help Wirtz reach his full potential and become a key figure in the team’s long-term plans.
Selling him now would be a major decision, especially when the club has invested significantly in his arrival and is still waiting to see the full benefits of that investment.
Could Chelsea Eventually Make a Move for Wirtz?
For now, Chelsea’s reported interest appears to be at the monitoring stage rather than an advanced transfer pursuit.
Much would depend on Liverpool’s willingness to negotiate, the player’s own ambitions and whether Chelsea decide to turn their interest into a formal approach.
With Wirtz reportedly committed to proving himself at Anfield, a move to Stamford Bridge does not currently appear imminent.
Liverpool fans will hope his recent displays mark the beginning of a sustained run of impressive performances.
