Liverpool’s £50m bid for Ismaila Sarr rejected as Palace dig in
Liverpool have seen an opening £50 million offer for Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr turned down, with the Eagles reluctant to sell without a replacement lined up.
The Reds have shifted their attention to the 28-year-old Senegal international after Brighton set an £80 million asking price for Yankuba Minteh. Sarr has been on Liverpool’s radar since 2020, when the club ultimately pursued Diogo Jota from Wolves instead. With the transfer window closing on 1 September and options on the flanks still limited, the club has returned to an old target.
According to a report shared by Foday Manneh, Sarr is being viewed as a viable alternative. Palace’s stance, however, remains firm. Simon Jones of the Daily Mail reported that the club’s primary concern is securing a quality replacement before sanctioning any departure: “Palace’s concern is finding a quality replacement at this stage and they will not do a deal unless they have one in place.”
This leaves Liverpool facing a familiar late-window dilemma. They may need to raise their bid significantly, or hope Palace can finalise incoming business in the remaining days. Previous pursuits of Minteh and Ibrahim Mbaye have already shown how quickly valuations can escalate.
At this stage of the window, Liverpool appear set to pay a premium for whichever wide option they prioritise. Whether that proves to be Sarr or another name on the shortlist, the Reds must act decisively if they are to strengthen the attack before the deadline.
