Everton manager David Moyes felt his side were unfortunate to leave empty-handed after a dramatic late 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in the first-ever Merseyside derby at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Everton were beaten late on in a match Moyes believes they did enough to at least earn a point, while also claiming his side were denied a clear penalty.
“Absolutely we deserved a point. We didn’t deserve the outcome we got.
“But football’s cruel sometimes and you hopefully have to bounce back and go again when adversity goes against you a wee bit,” he said.
The Everton boss pointed to a key incident involving Curtis Jones and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, insisting his side should have been awarded a spot-kick after a challenge in the box.
“Yeah, I do. Why would he go down if he’s not fouled?
“He’s in on goal to shoot and finish, so why would he not take the opportunity to do that?” Moyes added.
