Liverpool may have secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Brentford, but the celebrations have been overshadowed by worrying injury news involving Dominik Szoboszlai and Jeremie Frimpong.
Head coach Andoni Iraola has confirmed that both players are expected to spend time on the sidelines, dealing another frustrating blow to Liverpool’s growing injury problems. 😔
Szoboszlai returned to the starting XI after missing Liverpool’s previous two matches, but his comeback was cut short when he was forced off after just 30 minutes.
The Hungarian midfielder has suffered a setback with the same injury that had been troubling him, with Iraola admitting that he may have returned before fully recovering.
🗣️ IRAOLA ON SZOBOSZLAI:
“Dom felt the same injury, not a new injury, probably not healed enough and we will need more time with him.”
Meanwhile, Frimpong’s situation is also concerning. The Dutchman came on as a second-half substitute against Brentford but was forced off just minutes later after picking up an injury.
Iraola explained that he introduced Frimpong because he believed the defender could provide an attacking threat against Brentford’s 10 men. Unfortunately, the decision ended with another injury concern.
🗣️ IRAOLA ON FRIMPONG:
“Jeremie was new.”
The Liverpool boss then delivered the worrying verdict:
“But it means we will lose Jeremie and Dom for some time, yes.” 💔
Liverpool’s demanding schedule may also have played a part in the situation. The team had returned late after their Champions League trip to LASK, leaving limited time for recovery before facing Brentford.
Despite the double injury setback, Iraola was pleased with the result, describing the three points as very important against a strong Brentford side.
Goals from Victor Munoz and Alexander Isak secured the 2-1 win, although Brentford finished the match with nine men following two red cards.
🔴 THE BIG CONCERN: Liverpool now face fresh uncertainty over two important players, and their absence could put even more pressure on the squad as the fixtures continue to pile up.
How long will Szoboszlai and Frimpong be out? Liverpool fans will be hoping both players can return as soon as possible. 🙏
Liverpool win the battle, but lose two more players to injury! 😭
