Liverpool supporters hoping for a sensational reunion with Trent Alexander-Arnold may have to put those expectations on hold after Fabrizio Romano provided a fresh update on the defender’s future at Real Madrid.
Speculation has recently linked the England international with a possible return to Anfield following a difficult start to life in Spain. However, Romano has moved to dismiss suggestions that Liverpool are actively working on bringing their former academy graduate back to the club.
Romano Rules Out January Liverpool Reunion
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the respected transfer journalist explained that Liverpool have not opened any serious discussions over a potential move for Alexander-Arnold.
Romano also made it clear that neither the player nor Real Madrid is currently considering a separation during the January transfer window.
According to Romano, both parties are interested in continuing their relationship, with the current expectation being that Alexander-Arnold will remain at the Santiago Bernabéu beyond the middle of the season.
The update comes as a significant blow to supporters who had been hoping to see the 28-year-old return to Merseyside.
Alexander-Arnold Facing Competition in Madrid
Alexander-Arnold’s time in Spain has not been entirely straightforward. Injury problems affected his first season at Real Madrid, while competition for places has made it difficult for him to establish the influence he enjoyed during his Liverpool career.
His situation has naturally attracted attention, particularly given his importance to Liverpool during his previous spell at Anfield.
However, leaving Madrid after a relatively short period would be a major decision, especially with the defender still determined to establish himself at the Spanish giants.
Liverpool Must Look Elsewhere for Defensive Reinforcements
Although Alexander-Arnold’s return would undoubtedly excite sections of the Liverpool fanbase, Romano’s comments suggest there is currently no concrete transfer movement.
Liverpool may therefore have to continue exploring other options if they decide to strengthen the right-back position.
For now, the possibility of a romantic reunion appears premature. Alexander-Arnold remains focused on his future in Madrid, while Liverpool have not made any serious attempt to bring him home.
Unless the situation changes significantly in the coming months, supporters should not expect a January return for the former Reds star.
What do you think, Liverpool fans? Should Liverpool try to bring Trent Alexander-Arnold back to Anfield in the future, or should the club focus on other defensive options?
