Hungary have been handed an injury scare after defender Bendegúz Bolla was forced off the pitch on a stretcher during their Nations League clash against Northern Ireland.
The 26-year-old right-back started the match for Hungary but was unable to continue after suffering an injury in the 31st minute.
Bolla was involved in a challenge with Northern Ireland midfielder Isaac Price, who accidentally caught the Hungarian defender on the ankle. The incident immediately left Bolla in discomfort, with medical staff quickly rushing onto the pitch to assess the situation.
Despite receiving treatment, the defender was unable to continue. He was eventually substituted in the 34th minute, with Attila Osváth coming on in his place.
The worrying part came as Bolla was unable to walk off the pitch by himself. He had to be carried away on a stretcher, raising concerns about the seriousness of the injury.
Bolla had started Hungary’s previous Nations League fixture against Ukraine and played the full 90 minutes in that match.
The defender has earned 38 caps for Hungary, contributing two assists, and has established himself as an important option for the national team.
Hungary will now wait for further medical assessments to determine the extent of Bolla’s injury and how long he could be sidelined.
