Liverpool lead the race for PSG winger Ibrahim Mbaye
Liverpool are in pole position to sign Paris Saint-Germain’s highly rated 18-year-old winger Ibrahim Mbaye this summer, according to Football Insider.
Multiple clubs are tracking the Senegal international, but the Reds have moved ahead of the competition after making their interest clear. Pete O’Rourke told Football Insider: “Liverpool are trying to put themselves in a position where they could be frontrunners for Ibrahim Mbaye.
“With Liverpool now showing their cards and making their interest known, they’re hoping that will give them an advantage, but there is a bit of a battle for his signature right now.
“PSG, I think, reluctantly would possibly let him move on with the plethora of attackers that they’ve got in their star-studded side.
“Liverpool will be hoping to make headway on a potential deal in the coming days and weeks, and they’ll be hoping they can possibly get a deal done for the 18-year-old as soon as possible.”
Mbaye is a pacey, direct wide forward who can play on either flank but is most effective on the right. He has shown flashes of real quality in limited minutes for PSG and already has senior international experience with Senegal, including a historic goal at the 2026 World Cup.
For Liverpool, the appeal is clear. Mohamed Salah’s departure has left a major hole on the right, and the attack looked short of unpredictability at times last season. Mbaye is not the finished article and would not be expected to fill Salah’s boots immediately, but regular Premier League football could accelerate his development in a way that limited opportunities at PSG may not.
PSG are open to selling for the right price given their depth in attack. A deal is far from done and will depend on agreeing a fee, but Liverpool’s early positioning has given them an edge over other interested parties.
The Reds are also monitoring Mbaye’s teammate Bradley Barcola, though any move for the more established French winger would come at a significantly higher cost. Interest in Mbaye is being treated as a separate option that could still work alongside or instead of a bigger-name signing.
If Liverpool can get a deal over the line, they would be adding a high-upside teenage talent with the tools to develop into a star.
