“It’s happening” – Fabrizio Romano drops major ‘here we go’ update on Liverpool transfer shock
Fabrizio Romano delivered huge transfer news for Liverpool supporters on Wednesday night after revealing that Andy Robertson has verbally agreed to join Tottenham Hotspur.
The Scotland international brought an emotional end to his nine-year spell at Anfield last weekend, saying goodbye alongside Mo Salah after helping the Reds win multiple major honours, including two Premier League titles and the Champions League.
Reports earlier in the week suggested there was already an agreement in principle between Robertson and Spurs, and Romano has now indicated the transfer is all but complete.
Taking to X, the Italian journalist claimed Tottenham have reached a verbal agreement with the Liverpool defender, despite late interest from Juventus attempting to hijack the move.
Romano wrote: “EXCL: Tottenham reach verbal agreement to sign Andy Robertson, here we go! Pact expected to be respected and deal to be signed soon despite Juventus proposal to try hijack the deal. Robertson, wanted by THFC last January and again now with De Zerbi. It’s happening.”
The move would see Robertson reunite with Roberto De Zerbi’s side after Spurs secured their Premier League survival last weekend, paving the way for the transfer to progress.
For Liverpool fans, the thought of seeing Robertson in Tottenham colours may take some getting used to after nearly a decade of memorable moments in red. However, the 32-year-old is expected to receive a warm reception whenever he returns to Anfield next season.
His departure also raises questions over Liverpool’s plans at left-back going forward. Milos Kerkez now appears set to become the club’s first-choice option, but uncertainty remains over who will provide cover.
Kostas Tsimikas could return to his backup role after his loan spell at Roma, while academy prospect Owen Beck may also be considered for a promotion to the senior squad. Liverpool could alternatively enter the market for another affordable left-back capable of competing for a starting place.
While Robertson’s future seems close to being resolved, Liverpool still face an important decision regarding their left-back depth ahead of next season.
