Liverpool and Manchester United held talks to sign Wolves teenager Mateus Mane
Liverpool and Manchester United were both interested in signing Mateus Mane from Wolves before the summer transfer window closed, according to TEAMtalk.

The two clubs are admirers of the highly rated 18-year-old attacker and held talks over a potential move. Liverpool made contact in the final days of the window and were prepared to sign Mane before loaning him back to Wolves for the remainder of the season. However, the Midlands club were unwilling to sanction his departure, and the player himself was not pushing for a transfer. As a result, the deal never materialised.

Liverpool ultimately strengthened their wide areas with the arrivals of Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz. The Reds had also been linked with Ismaila Sarr and Yankuba Minteh as they looked to add further depth on the flanks.

Mane is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in English football and is seen as a strong long-term prospect. Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are all monitoring the teenager, though it remains unclear whether any of those clubs will make a formal approach in the coming months.

Manchester United could also benefit from greater options out wide. The club has leaned heavily on Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, and Mane possesses the quality to eventually feature for a top Premier League side. Whether Liverpool or United revive their interest remains to be seen, but the young attacker continues to attract significant attention.
