Liverpool tipped for major transfer splurge as four key targets emerge
Liverpool’s summer transfer activity has been unusually quiet compared to their Premier League rivals. While the rest of the traditional “Big Six” have spent more than $1.07 billion on new signings, the Reds have made only two major additions so far.
Striker Victor Muñoz joined from Osasuna in a $46.3 million deal, while defender Jeremy Jacquet arrived from Rennes for $73 million after an agreement reached earlier this year.
The cautious approach has raised eyebrows, especially after the appointment of new manager Andoni Iraola, who is expected to reshape the squad to suit his style. Liverpool also face the challenge of replacing Mohamed Salah, whose departure has left a huge gap in attack.
Their restrained spending is even more surprising after last summer’s record-breaking recruitment drive, when the club spent around $599 million. However, with the new campaign fast approaching, Liverpool are expected to step up their transfer business.
Bradley Barcola – $161m
Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola has reportedly become Liverpool’s top attacking target after interest in Yan Diomande cooled. The 23-year-old has produced 34 goals and 28 assists over the last two seasons but faces stiff competition for a starting place at PSG.
French reports claim Barcola is enthusiastic about the idea of joining Liverpool and is excited by Iraola’s plans. PSG are believed to value him at around $188 million, while Liverpool hope to strike a deal closer to $161 million.
Although naturally a left winger, Barcola’s ability to play on either flank makes him an attractive option as Liverpool search for someone capable of replacing Salah’s attacking output.
Ezri Konsa – $80.5m
Liverpool are also looking to strengthen their defence following Ibrahima Konaté’s departure. While Jacquet adds depth, the club wants an experienced Premier League centre-back who can make an immediate impact.
Ezri Konsa fits the profile perfectly. The Aston Villa and England defender is known for his composure, defensive reliability and versatility, with the ability to operate at right-back as well.
Reports suggest Liverpool could test Villa’s resolve with an offer of around $80.5 million, although Villa would be reluctant to lose one of their key defenders.
Matias Fernandez-Pardo – $80.5m
Another player on Liverpool’s radar is Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo. The 21-year-old Belgian can play as a striker, attacking midfielder or winger, making him an attractive option for Iraola.
French outlet L’Equipe claims Fernandez-Pardo has requested to leave Lille, despite the club wanting to keep him. With Hugo Ekitike recovering from an Achilles injury, Liverpool may see the versatile attacker as valuable cover who can contribute across several positions even after the squad returns to full strength.
