Inter close in on Curtis Jones as Frattesi exit holds the key
Inter Milan’s pursuit of Curtis Jones is gathering real momentum, with the Serie A side increasingly confident a deal with Liverpool can be struck before the transfer window shuts.
The England international has been Inter’s preferred midfield target since May. Progress has been slowed by Liverpool’s valuation and the need to free space in Cristian Chivu’s squad, but the picture is shifting.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Inter believe a fee in the region of €35 million could now be enough to land Jones. That figure is notable: La Gazzetta dello Sport reported Liverpool had been holding out for at least €40m. The gap suggests room for negotiation.
The decisive factor remains Davide Frattesi. Inter do not want to overload the midfield and are valuing the Italian at roughly €25-30m. Once Frattesi departs, the Nerazzurri intend to return for Jones with a formal offer.
Jones would bring technical quality, energy and positional flexibility. He can operate as an attacking No. 8 or drop deeper, offering Chivu another midfielder comfortable receiving the ball under pressure. Inter see him as a natural fit for their system.
For Liverpool the decision is more complex. Jones is an academy graduate and a reliable squad option, yet a €35m sale would represent a healthy return while giving the player a clearer path to regular starts elsewhere.
Everything hinges on Frattesi. His departure would effectively green-light Inter’s next move for Jones before the deadline.
