Speaking to the press, Netherlands head coach Ronald Koeman explained his decision by the right-back’s fitness problems that have plagued him throughout the season.“It is the pattern of this season that he has been injured regularly,” Koeman said.
Frimpong had a couple of periods of lengthy absences in his first year with Liverpool due to hamstring issues. His fitness had to be managed throughout the season, which is why he could not quite become a regular starter, even though he racked up 35 appearances for the Reds.
