BE A LITTLE BIT MORE SELFISH!” — LIVERPOOL LEGEND STEVEN GERRARD HAS GIVEN FLORIAN WIRTZ IMPORTANT ADVICE AFTER HIS RECENT UPWARD TURN IN FORM!
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has delivered a clear message to Florian Wirtz after seeing the German playmaker improve significantly in recent weeks, praising his response to criticism while challenging him to become even more dangerous in front of goal. 🔴✨
After a difficult period at Anfield, Wirtz is finally beginning to show more of the quality, creativity and intelligence that convinced Liverpool to invest so heavily in bringing him to the club.
The £100m-plus playmaker has faced enormous expectations since arriving at Liverpool, and his early struggles have attracted plenty of criticism. However, rather than allowing the pressure to affect his confidence, the German international has continued working, creating chances and trying to make a difference for his teammates.
Now, performances against LASK, Brentford, Villarreal and Brighton have offered encouraging signs that Wirtz is moving in the right direction. 💪🇩🇪
And Gerrard, one of the greatest players ever to wear the Liverpool shirt, believes there is even more to come from the talented midfielder.
🗣️ GERRARD’S MESSAGE TO WIRTZ
Speaking on The Overlap Daily, Gerrard praised Wirtz for refusing to feel sorry for himself despite the criticism he has received.
The Liverpool icon highlighted the youngster’s determination to keep creating opportunities and contributing to the team, even when things were not going his way.
Gerrard was particularly impressed with Wirtz’s performance against Brighton, pointing to his excellent passing, intelligent movement and ability to find dangerous spaces in the opposition’s defence.
🗣️ Gerrard said:
“ He’s been an awful lot better in recent weeks, but yesterday against Brighton he was outstanding in the first half. Some of the passes he played and the spaces he found were excellent.”
That is a huge compliment coming from Gerrard, a midfielder who understood better than most what it takes to influence games at the highest level.
But the former Liverpool captain was not finished there. He believes Wirtz must now take another important step in his development by trusting his own shooting ability and looking to score more goals himself.
🗣️ “MY MESSAGE TO HIM IS TO BE A BIT MORE SELFISH.”
Gerrard explained that Wirtz sometimes looks too hard for the perfect final pass when he has a good opportunity to shoot.
🗣️ He added:
“Sometimes you don’t have to play the last pass or look for that final pass. If you’re in range, let it fly. He’s capable of scoring goals himself, so I want him to be a little bit more selfish, in a nice way.”
🔥 The message is simple: Wirtz already has the vision to create chances for others, but Liverpool also need him to become a consistent goal threat.
There are moments when the German finds himself in a promising position but chooses to search for a teammate instead of taking responsibility himself. Gerrard wants him to recognise those opportunities and have the confidence to pull the trigger.
The Liverpool legend is not asking Wirtz to abandon his creative instincts or stop providing chances for his teammates. Instead, he wants the midfielder to strike the right balance between being a creator and becoming a match-winning goalscorer.
That extra confidence could make him even more difficult for defenders to deal with. ⚡
🔴 WIRTZ IS FINALLY SHOWING SIGNS OF PROGRESS
What makes this recent improvement particularly encouraging is Wirtz’s attitude.
The pressure surrounding his performances has been intense, especially given the expectations attached to his transfer fee. Every misplaced pass, missed opportunity or quiet performance has attracted attention.
Yet the German has continued to play his football without becoming distracted by outside opinions.
After Liverpool’s victory over Brighton, Wirtz made it clear that he was pleased with his recent improvement while acknowledging that things had not gone well enough during the previous month.
His response suggests a player who understands the criticism but remains determined to improve.
And that is exactly what Liverpool supporters want to see.
The club did not invest so heavily in Wirtz simply because he could play a clever pass. Liverpool brought him in because he possesses the technical quality, creativity and attacking intelligence to become one of the most influential players in the team.
His recent performances are beginning to offer a glimpse of that potential.
🔥 CAN WIRTZ BECOME LIVERPOOL’S NEXT BIG-GAME MATCH WINNER?
Under Andoni Iraola, Liverpool will need their attacking players to deliver consistently as the fixtures continue to arrive every few days.
Wirtz has already demonstrated that he can find pockets of space, unlock defences and create opportunities that other players might not even see.
The next challenge is turning more of those promising moments into goals and decisive contributions.
If he combines his creative vision with greater confidence in front of goal, Liverpool could have an even more dangerous weapon in their attack.
Imagine Wirtz continuing to create chances for Bradley Barcola, Rio Ngumoha and his other teammates while also becoming a regular scorer himself. That would give Liverpool another dimension going forward. 🔥🔴
Of course, one good run of performances does not mean the job is finished. Wirtz must maintain this level, remain consistent and prove that he can deliver when Liverpool need him most.
But the signs are encouraging, and Gerrard’s comments show that the improvement has not gone unnoticed.
The message from the Liverpool legend is clear: keep working, keep creating, but do not be afraid to take the spotlight yourself.
Florian Wirtz has started answering his critics with his performances. Now, can he take Gerrard’s advice and become even more decisive in front of goal? 👀🔥
🔴 LIVERPOOL FANS, DO YOU AGREE WITH STEVEN GERRARD?
Should Florian Wirtz be more selfish and shoot more often, or should he continue prioritising creating chances for his teammates?
