Liverpool teammates Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez found themselves at the centre of a heated confrontation during Hungary’s 1-0 defeat to Ukraine, with tensions exploding in the dying moments of the match.
What had been a frustrating night for Hungary suddenly turned chaotic late in the game as players from both sides became involved in a heated exchange.
The incident appeared to begin with Ukraine winger Viktor Tsyhankov confronting Hungary captain Szoboszlai. The two quickly went face-to-face before Kerkez stepped in, seemingly attempting to prevent the situation from escalating further.
However, Kerkez’s intervention only added to the tension.
Ukraine defender Mykola Matviyenko then joined the confrontation, while Kerkez and Tsyhankov continued their heated exchange. Within seconds, several players from both teams had gathered around them as tempers flared.
The situation became particularly intense in the 90+4th minute, with all four players at the centre of the incident eventually receiving yellow cards.
Szoboszlai, Kerkez, Tsyhankov and Matviyenko were all booked as the officials finally brought the confrontation under control.
For Hungary, it was a bitter way to end a disappointing night.
Despite dominating possession and registering 17 shots, Hungary could not find the breakthrough they needed. Ukraine ultimately secured all three points thanks to Danylo Sikan’s 42nd-minute header.
The result meant Hungary were left frustrated, while Ukraine held on for a hard-fought 1-0 victory.
For Liverpool supporters, however, the late confrontation was one of the biggest talking points of the night, with both Szoboszlai and Kerkez heavily involved as emotions boiled over.
Thankfully, the incident ended with yellow cards rather than anything more serious — but the footage certainly showed just how quickly things can escalate when tensions are running high. 😳🔥
Szoboszlai and Kerkez may be Liverpool teammates, but there was certainly no shortage of fight and intensity from the pair in the closing stages.
