Liverpool are advancing decisively in their pursuit of Yan Diomande, and the 19-year-old Ivorian winger’s sensational display in Ivory Coast’s World Cup opener has only intensified the urgency for the Reds to finalise a deal before his value climbs even higher.
Though still a teenager, Diomande has already established himself as one of world football’s most dangerous wingers in one-versus-one situations. After a single outstanding season at RB Leipzig, he appears destined for another high-profile move — this time to Anfield in what would be a blockbuster transfer.
Last week, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Liverpool have tabled “important money” in their bid to reach a personal agreement with the player.
“Diomande is probably one of the most exciting and electrifying wingers on the market,” Romano explained. “Now, it’s difficult to find players who can be young, talented, good in one-v-one, fast, score, and deliver assists… it’s very difficult.
Liverpool view the signing as a top, top priority and are pushing hard to make it happen, while Paris Saint-Germain also remain in contention. However, David Ornstein has indicated that the Merseysiders are currently better positioned to secure terms with the winger. Club-to-club negotiations with RB Leipzig have now begun, with the German club demanding approximately €130m / £112m to sanction the sale.
At that price, Diomande would rank as Liverpool’s third-most expensive signing in club history, behind only Florian Wirtz (£116m including add-ons) and Alexander Isak (£125m). The deal would also represent Leipzig’s record outgoing transfer and the third-highest sale in Bundesliga history, trailing only Ousmane Dembélé’s €148m move to Barcelona and the Wirtz transfer.
For Liverpool supporters still adjusting to life after Mohamed Salah’s departure, Diomande represents the ideal successor — a dynamic, goal-contributing wide attacker who can operate with similar fearlessness and productivity. With space already created in the squad, the Reds are well-placed to integrate him rapidly.
