Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has responded brilliantly after being asked about Manchester City’s ongoing financial controversy following Liverpool’s painful 3-0 defeat at Anfield. 👀🔥
Despite the frustration of the result, the Dutch defender refused to get drawn into a sensitive off-field debate, choosing his words carefully while making it clear that the rivalry on the pitch is a separate matter.
🗣️ Van Dijk said:
“The only thing I can say, because it’s ongoing, is that I have really enjoyed the rivalry, but that is on the pitch. What has happened off the pitch is a totally different story.
“Because it’s still ongoing, it’s not a good idea for me to comment on this. When it’s properly settled I will definitely share my comments on it, but for now let’s wait and see.”
💬 A captain’s response — calm, measured and professional.
Liverpool and Manchester City have shared some unforgettable Premier League title battles in recent years, with the Reds suffering heartbreak on multiple occasions. Now, with City’s financial case still an ongoing matter, Van Dijk has made it clear that he will wait until everything is officially settled before giving his full opinion.
The immediate focus for Liverpool must now be on recovering from the defeat, learning from the disappointment and responding positively in their next match.
