Liverpool defender Jérémy Jacquet is quickly making a name for himself at both club and international level, and his latest performance for France has earned him major praise from national team manager Zinédine Zidane.
The 21-year-old centre-back continued his impressive start to the season by playing the full 90 minutes in France’s 1-1 draw with Italy at the Stade de France.
After making his senior international debut against Belgium, Jacquet was trusted with another start against Italy — this time alongside Dayot Upamecano in the heart of the French defence.
Despite the pressure of facing a strong Italian side, Jacquet looked composed and confident throughout the match. He stood up well in physical battles, defended aggressively and showed the maturity expected from a much more experienced international defender.
His performance did not go unnoticed.
Zidane was particularly impressed with what he saw from the young Liverpool star, describing Jacquet’s display as “very good” and highlighting his bravery and strength in duels.
“Very good. Very, very good. Brave. Very good in the duels.”
Those words will certainly excite Liverpool supporters, especially considering how quickly Jacquet has adapted to the demands of top-level football.
The defender has also been recognised for his impressive performances at club level, having been nominated for the September Premier League Player of the Month award.
That nomination is another indication of just how quickly Jacquet has established himself as an important player.
What makes his progress even more impressive is the fact that he has already shown that he can perform under pressure for both Liverpool and France.
While competition for places in the French defence remains fierce, Jacquet’s recent displays suggest he is determined to force his way into Zidane’s long-term plans.
For Liverpool fans, the emergence of a young French defender capable of earning praise from one of football’s biggest names is certainly something to be excited about.
Jacquet still has plenty to learn, but his confidence, physicality and composure are already becoming clear strengths.
And if he continues developing at this rate, Liverpool may have another top-class defender on their hands. 🔴🔥
The future looks very bright for Jérémy Jacquet at Anfield. ❤️
