Cristian Romero has been a key figure for Thomas Frank’s Tottenham side this season. After signing a new long-term contract in the summer—despite transfer speculation—Romero was appointed club captain and has excelled in his nine appearances so far.

Since scoring against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup final, he has anchored a defense that has recorded four clean sheets.
“The best perform consistently every week. I see a more mature player and person now—not that he wasn’t before. He’s aggressive when needed but calm and composed when the situation demands. He’s a great character who truly loves the game. In training and in matches, his focus stands out, and that’s really important,” said Frank.
Romero missed several games last season under Ange Postecoglou due to injury, and Frank will be eager to keep the tough centre-back fit this campaign. Tottenham currently sit third in the Premier League and remain unbeaten in the Champions League, with Romero’s form playing a major role in their strong start.
With upcoming fixtures against Aston Villa, Everton, Chelsea, and Manchester United, Frank will want his captain available as much as possible. However, Romero must be cautious about his discipline.
According to Premier League rules, players who accumulate five yellow cards in their first 19 league matches receive a one-game suspension. Romero has already picked up three bookings in seven games, meaning two more cautions in the next 12 fixtures would trigger a ban. If he were to be booked against Villa on Sunday and again versus Everton on October 26, he would miss Tottenham’s clash with Chelsea on November 1.
Elsewhere, Mohammed Kudus, Djed Spence, and Joao Palhinha have each received two yellow cards in league play.
