Liverpool supporters were heard chanting Arne Slot’s name before the final whistle, showing strong backing for their manager after Cody Gakpo sealed a 2-0 win over West Ham.
The travelling fans made their appreciation loud and clear, as the victory lifted the Reds back into the top half of the Premier League and marked their first league win since November 1.
BBC Sport’s live coverage picked up the away end vocally supporting Slot late in the game — and understandably so. The Dutchman made a bold but effective decision to drop Mo Salah, shifting Cody Gakpo across to accommodate Florian Wirtz on the left, while Alexander Isak kept his starting place. All of those choices were justified by the result.
Isak, who has faced huge pressure since his emotional switch from Newcastle, will be especially relieved to finally net his first Premier League goal for Liverpool. That strike should ease the burden on both him and Slot ahead of next week’s clash with Sunderland. Wirtz also produced arguably his best performance yet in a Liverpool shirt, especially in the opening half.
