Liverpool could be heading towards a major ownership change, with the minority investors who recently secured a stake in the club reportedly having the option to take full control in a staged takeover.
According to a report by The Athletic, 1892 Holdings, the consortium that invested in Liverpool, could significantly increase its shareholding beyond its initial 38 per cent investment.
Under the reported agreement with Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the consortium could raise its stake to approximately 69 per cent within the next 12 months, potentially paving the way for a complete takeover of the Premier League giants.
Who Is Behind the Liverpool Investment?
The investment group, known as 1892 Holdings, is led by Amit Bhatia and includes several high-profile investors.
Among those involved are Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin and Jeff Bezos’ K5 Global sports investment fund, which is reportedly the consortium’s largest investor.
Amit Bhatia has already taken on the role of Liverpool vice-chairman following the investment. He has also been regularly spotted attending matches at Anfield and away from home as he becomes more familiar with the club.
Could FSG Lose Full Control of Liverpool?
The possibility of 1892 Holdings eventually acquiring 100 per cent of Liverpool would represent a significant development in the club’s ownership structure.
For supporters, the prospect of new investment could bring fresh expectations about the club’s future, particularly regarding squad development, infrastructure and long-term ambitions.
However, the proposed investment and any further increase in ownership remain subject to approval from the Independent Football Regulator.
The deal is reportedly valued at approximately £2 billion.
What Does This Mean for Liverpool Supporters?
Although no complete takeover has been confirmed, the reported option to increase the consortium’s stake to 100 per cent will undoubtedly attract attention among Liverpool supporters.
Many fans will be watching closely to see whether the new investors are prepared to provide the financial backing needed to help Liverpool compete consistently for major trophies.
For now, the big question remains: could Liverpool soon have entirely new owners?
What do you think, Liverpool fans? Would you welcome Jeff Bezos-backed investors taking full control of Liverpool, or should FSG remain involved? Share your thoughts in the comments.
