According to Axel Hesse of Bild, the Dutch coach is ‘close’ to being dismissed and could depart by the summer, with Xabi Alonso reportedly lined up as his successor at Anfield.
In contrast, sources closer to the club insist that Slot still has the backing of Liverpool’s leadership, with no immediate intention to part ways with him.
A report from Miguel Delaney of The Independent states that Liverpool have “no current plans” to sack their manager. Club officials believe several mitigating factors have contributed to what has been a disappointing season.
Delaney added that multiple sources point to issues such as injuries and the emotional toll of Diogo Jota’s passing as significant influences on the team’s decline.
Even so, questions remain over Slot’s performance. Reports suggest his future could hinge on whether Liverpool secure qualification for next season’s Champions League. Failing to do so would make it difficult to justify keeping him in charge.
