A Liverpool cult hero, still only 31 years old, had his contract terminated in December after not playing for that club in 1055 days. It was a Christmas present no footballer would want to receive and marks a sad decline for a player who won it all during his time at Anfield.The footballer in question, Divock Origi, last played a professional match for his former club AC Milan, on May 28, 2023, in a Serie A clash with Juventus. He did, however, go out on loan to Nottingham Forest after that, playing just 22 times for the English club and scoring just once in the FA Cup.As such, while it’s been more than 1000 days since last playing for AC Milan – despite only leaving the Italian club a few months ago – his last professional outing came 727 days ago, on 21 April 2024. Origi played 10 minutes off the bench as Forest lost 2-0 against Everton in the Premier League.In his final months at Milan, the 31-year-old striker had been training away from the club in an effort to regain fitness. In all, he only found the back of the net twice in 36 appearances for the Rossoneri, while his season-long loan at Nottingham Forest last term produced no Premier League goals at all.The Serie A side confirmed Origi’s early exit with a brief 26-word statement. It read: “AC Milan can confirm the termination of Divock Origi’s contract by mutual consent. The Club would like to wish him all the best for the future.”According to French outlet L’Equipe, Origi had been earning around £65,000 a week at AC Milan. Meanwhile, Italian paper Gazzetta dello Sport report that the forward categorically resisted all transfer interest following his Forest loan, despite his last appearance of any kind coming as a substitute in that aforementioned game against Everton in April 2024.Following the conclusion of the 2024 summer transfer window, it was concluded that Origi would train away from AC Milan.
