A key Liverpool player has disclosed that he rejected a significant offer from the Saudi Pro League at the end of last season, choosing instead to stay committed to the Reds.In an interview with The Telegraph, Alisson Becker stated that while he might consider playing in the Middle East later in his career, he feels “now is not the time” for such a move.
The 31-year-old, whose contract at Anfield extends until June 2027, said: I have a contract and I want to honor it or negotiate a new one. I am very happy here and my family is too.”Alisson added that he never seriously discussed wages with the Saudi clubs; it was more about initial interest.
He acknowledged that the attractive offers from other players made him slightly tempted, but he was resolute in his decision to stay and focus on Liverpool’s future.
Unlike his former Liverpool teammates Fabinho and Bobby Firmino, who moved to the Saudi Pro League, Alisson decided to remain with Liverpool.
His comments suggest that while he was somewhat enticed by the financial offer, he chose to prioritize his family and career by staying with Liverpool for at least the next three seasons.
By the end of his current contract, Alisson will be nearing his 35th birthday and will have spent nine years at Anfield. It’s possible he might consider new challenges elsewhere at that point.
Meanwhile, Liverpool is already looking to the future and has shown interest in Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who is nearly eight years younger than Alisson.
This suggests the club is planning for life beyond their current star goalkeeper, who has expressed his intention to remain with Liverpool, much to the delight of its supporters.
