Liverpool are back in League Cup action on Wednesday as they travel to Southampton looking to book their place in the semi-finals. And Arne Slot will have to make changes against the Saints.
Arne Slot could hand out Liverpool debut and Andy Robertson replacement first appearance for years
The Reds will be without Andy Robertson after he was sent off in their 2-2 draw with Fulham on Saturday, as the Scotland captain serves a one-match suspension. Consequently, Slot will have little room to rotate his defence down on the South Coast.
But with Alexis Mac Allister back from a suspension of his own, Diogo Jota scoring on his return from injury against Fulham, and Federico Chiesa also back in contention, the Dutchman could make full use of his squad elsewhere.
However, a small question mark remains above his head following the midweek match after he suffered a knee injury in the first minute against the Cottagers.
Robertson was sent off in the 17th minute against Fulham for denial of a goalscoring opportunity after taking out Harry Wilson. He will definitely miss the trip to Southampton as a result as he serves a one-game suspension.
“You get a kick like this, two studs on a knee, it hurts for a bit but if you keep on running it gets better and better and you can run it off,” the Dutchman said. “That is what I was hoping for not in the least because I only have one defender at left full-back.
