Sky journalist drops major Liverpool transfer update over swap deal for £90m Real Madrid star

Respected Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg has issued a big transfer update concerning Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Liverpool have had a flying start to the 24/25 season under new boss Arne Slot, who had the task of following in the footsteps of Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds currently sit top of the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League and have only lost once across all competitions, a shock 1-0 defeat by Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

Looking ahead to the January transfer window, a major update has been dropped concerning Liverpool.

Earlier in the month, it was reported that Madrid were eyeing a swap deal involving midfielders Aurelien Tchouameni and Ryan Gravenberch.

The French international’s future appears to lie away from the Bernabeu as a recent report from Defensa Central states that Mdrid could negotiate a deal that includes Gravenberch as part of the exchange.

Tchouameni is contracted until 2028 and is valued at £90 million. As for Gravenberch, he’s thought to be valued around £33 million.

However, Sky Sports Germany’s Plettenerbg has now shut down those rumours, claiming Gravenberch is not looking to leave Anfield.

He wrote on social media: “Ryan #Gravenberch is currently not considering leaving Liverpool. The 22y/o is a key performer and a leading player for the team. Currently, there are no plans or discussions regarding a transfer in winter or summer.

“Been told that #LFC also have no intention of pursuing a swap deal involving Aurélien #Tchouaméni at this stage.”

Gravenberch has been one of Liverpool’s standout stars so far this season, having impressed playing in an unfamiliar role.

Back in the summer, Liverpool were looking to add a natural no.6 into their midfield ranks and had identified Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi as their primary target.

However, the Spaniard rejected a move to Anfield as he wanted to stay with Sociedad.

As a result, Liverpool opted not to pursue other targets and Slot decided to give Gravenberch a shot in the no.6 role.

The 22-year-old took the chance and never looked back as he has now become one of the first names on Slot’s starting XI.

Liverpool will be back in action on Wednesday night as they take on Southampton in the Carabao Cup.
