Liverpool star Darwin Nunez shushed Southampton supporters after opening the scoring for the Reds in their Carabao Cup quarter-final at St Mary’s in torrential rain.
Liverpool star Darwin Nunez shushed Southampton fans after scoring the Reds opener in their Carabao Cup quarter-final tie at St Mary’s.
In the 24th minute, a deflected ball from Trent Alexander-Arnold fell to Nunez who raced through on goal one on one with Alex McCarthy. The Uruguayan made no mistake, slotting home to give the Reds the lead.
And after scoring, Nunez took to shushing the Southampton supporters inside St Mary’s, who had been chanting at the Liverpool star “s*** Andy Carroll”. And then when they started to sign the chant louder, Nunez put his finger to his ear, asking for them to sing it louder.
And the goal against Southampton was Nunez’s fourth of the season. The 25-year-old has been looking short of confidence of late and has failed to step up for the Reds in Diogo Jota’s Autumn injury absence.
However, he took his goal against the Saints confidently, something which will boost both him and Reds boss Arne Slot, who opted to rest a host of players for the Carabao Cup tie. And on 32 minutes, Harvey Elliot doubled Liverpool’s advantage, with the Reds in a commanding position heading into the break at St Mary’s.
