The Reds saw their lead at the top of the Premier League cut to four points on Saturday after watching Arsenal beat Leicester City 2-0.

Wolves at Anfield represented a decent chance for Liverpool to restore the seven-point gap, though, with the visitors holding a poor record at the Reds home stadium.

It was the first of four Liverpool fixtures in 10 days, with tricky away trips to Aston Villa and Man City immediately on the horizon.

Although that may have brought a temptation for Arne Slot to rotate, the Liverpool head coach went strong with his starting XI at Anfield.

But after joining the game on commentary for Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher noted something that supporters will not have liked to see right from the start of the game.

Liverpool have often been slow starters in the Premier League this season, regularly needing second-halves of games to get up to their full speed.

At Anfield, this has usually meant hitting their peak in matches whilst kicking into the Kop.

Clearly aware of this, Wolves ensured that once they won the toss, they turned Liverpool around and had them shooting towards the famous stand during the first-half instead.

Noticing this tactic, Carragher suggested that supporters may have been a little concerned.

“They’ve turned them around in the first-half,” spotted the Liverpool legend. “No one really likes to see that in this stadium.”

“It means Liverpool have to have a very good start. If you look at this season, one thing about Liverpool is that they’ve been better in the second-half.”

Liverpool find their feet in front of the Kop
Although Liverpool prefer to face the Kop in the second-half, any time they shoot towards the stand they seem to grow in stature.

Unfortunately for Wolves that meant the Reds still had 45 minutes to do some damage.

And do some damage they did. It took only 15 minutes for Luis Diaz to bundle the ball past Jose Sa, before Mohamed Salah added to the lead with a penalty 20 minutes later.

Wolves certainly did their best to make a difference and level the playing field a little, but it ultimately didn’t matter. Not in the first-half, anyway.
