An official statement from the FA has confirmed that Liverpool manager Arne Slot will face some time off the pitch after being handed an extended touchline ban.
After a last minute goal from Everton’s James Tarkowski caused chaos during the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, match Michael Oliver handed out four red cards after blowing the final whistle.
Among those sent off after the game were Liverpool boss Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff who were dismissed due to their furious outburst towards the match officials.
And now, following a lengthy review of the incident, the FA have officially confirmed that they have handed the Liverpool pair an extended ban, meaning they will be absent for a massive fixture.
On Wednesday night, Liverpool welcome Newcastle United to Anfield for a thrilling Premier League clash, but they will be without Slot and Hulshoff, after the FA confirmed that they would be banned for two matches.
This means that they will also be absent for the Premier League clash with Southampton on March 8.
Confirming the news on social media, the FA wrote: “An independent Regulatory Commission has sanctioned Everton, Liverpool, Arne Slot and Sipke Hulshoff in relation to the Premier League fixture between the clubs on Wednesday 12 February.”
Details of the ban were explained in an official statement, that added: “An independent Regulatory Commission has sanctioned Everton, Liverpool, Arne Slot and Sipke Hulshoff in relation to the Premier League fixture between the clubs on Wednesday 12 February.
“It was alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players and/or technical area occupants did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way following the final whistle.
“It was alleged that the Liverpool head coach acted in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards both the match referee and an assistant referee after the match had finished.
“Arne Slot admitted the charge, and the Regulatory Commission imposed a two-match touchline suspension and £70,000 fine.”
The FA also confirmed that Hulshoff will be suspended for two matches and will also be fined.
The statement added: “It was alleged that the Liverpool assistant head coach acted in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards a match official, which led to his dismissal.
“It was further alleged that he acted in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards a match official after being sent off.
“Sipke Hulshoff admitted the charge, and the Regulatory Commission imposed a two-match touchline suspension and £7,000 fine.”
Everton and Liverpool admitted to all charges handed to them, and in total the Regulatory Commission handed them each fines of £65,000 and £50,000 respectively following a hearing.
The ban means that Slot and Hulshoff will be back on the touchline for Liverpool for their massive Carabao Cup final clash with Newcastle United on March 16.
In the absence, it is expected that assistant first-team coach John Heitinga will be on the touchline for Liverpool.
