Harvey Davies expected to stay and sign new Liverpool deal
One of Liverpool’s young goalkeepers looks set to commit his immediate future to the club.
Harvey Davies is expected to remain at Anfield until at least January and is in line for a contract extension, according to The Athletic’s latest Transfer DealSheet.
The 22-year-old was recalled from his loan at Crawley Town in the winter window but did not feature for the first team last season. Three different goalkeepers started Premier League games for Liverpool in 2024-25, with Freddie Woodman stepping in during a brief spell when both Alisson Becker and Giorgi Mamardashvili were unavailable in April. Davies stayed on the sidelines throughout.
Despite interest in sending several academy and fringe players out on loan this month, Davies is not among those earmarked for a temporary exit. He is viewed as useful cover for the first half of the season and is expected to put pen to paper on a new deal. He signed his current contract in June 2025 and has just under a year left to run.
Why Liverpool want to keep him
Keeping Davies at the club rather than loaning him out signals clear belief in his potential. Game time is likely to remain scarce under Arne Slot while Alisson is fit, and the young keeper managed only 14 minutes across the pre-season friendlies in the United States. Yet Alisson’s injury history means depth remains a priority.
A reminder of how thin that depth can become came in April’s 3-1 win over Crystal Palace. When Woodman required treatment, Liverpool briefly looked in danger of having to turn to then fourth-choice Armin Pecsi. The episode underlined the value of having a reliable option like Davies available.
Whether he forces his way into competitive action this season remains to be seen. What is clearer is that Liverpool would rather have him on the books and under a longer contract than risk losing him or sending him elsewhere for regular minutes.
For now, Davies stays put — and a new deal appears close.
