Liverpool have opened talks over a future move for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, identifying the Senegal international as a potential long-term replacement for Alexis Mac Allister.
According to talkSPORT, the Reds have already spoken to Camara’s representatives about a possible deal in the summer of 2027. While Liverpool did not prioritise a new central midfielder in the just-closed window, the club is clearly thinking ahead.
Mac Allister’s future was the subject of mild speculation earlier this summer, though his father publicly insisted the Argentine wanted to stay at Anfield. Liverpool’s interest in Camara suggests they are preparing for life after the World Cup winner, whether that comes through a sale or simply natural succession.
Chelsea drama clears the path
Camara was close to joining Chelsea before the deadline, only for Monaco to pull the plug at the last minute. The Blues’ frustration with how the deal collapsed has reportedly pushed them towards other targets, with Atletico Madrid’s Pablo Barrios now viewed as their primary January option.
That development removes an immediate rival and gives Liverpool a clearer run at the 22-year-old. Sources indicate Chelsea are no longer prioritising Camara, leaving the door open for the Reds to build a relationship with the player and his camp.
Midfield market remains frantic
The summer window was chaotic in central midfield. Enzo Fernández moved from Chelsea to Manchester City on deadline day, while the Etihad also added Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi. Arsenal signed Bruno Guimarães, Tottenham brought in Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, and Manchester United added Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos and Carlos Baleba.
Liverpool stayed quiet in the position this time. Their early work on Camara suggests that will change next year.
Camara’s blend of physicality, progressive passing and defensive steel has made him one of the most tracked young midfielders in Europe. If Liverpool can secure him as the eventual successor to Mac Allister, it would represent smart, long-term squad planning rather than a reactive panic buy.
